    We believe in raising 100% grassfed and grass-finished beef with integrity.

    As stewards of over 30,000 acres of the Montana range, we bear responsibility to you and to our cattle, and to the land underfoot. That’s why our success isn’t just measured in a delicious, tender steak. Success, for us, is measured in the richness and diversity of the land we graze, in the gentle silence of a herd moved humanely and without stress, and in the strength and wellbeing of our local communities. From our land stewardship principles, to our animal husbandry, to the steak on your table, we believe that food raised with honesty and integrity makes for healthier communities.

    Our Team

    Founders Bryan Ulring and Zachary Jones met as competitors. In the early 2000s Bryan, of the J Bar L Ranch, and Zachary, of Twodot Land and Livestock, were both trying to create markets for their ethically-raised, 100% grassfed and grass-finished beef. Frustrated with the anonymity and irresponsible practices of the traditional commodity beef market, Bryan and Zachary wanted to do things differently. Recognizing their shared values and land ethos, the two decided to join forces and form Yellowstone Grassfed Beef.

    Over the years, Yellowstone Grassfed Beef has grown but our vision remains the same. Our team, both on the ranch and in the office, continues to ground their work in a commitment to supporting a local food system that nourishes and supports the land, the animals, and our local communities.

  • Our Practices

    It’s a simple premise: raise beef that’s good for the land, good for the animals, and good for the community.

    In a time when the majority of cattle are confined to feedlots and gorged on grain, growth hormones, and antibiotics, we believe you, and our cows, deserve better. Raised humanely on pasture without the use of hormones or antibiotics, our cattle are treated with respect.

    We practice planned grazing and holistic management to encourage biodiverse and resilient rangeland ecosystems, managing our impact to encourage native plant and wildlife species while building healthy soil. We recognize the importance of sharing the range, and use and wildlife-friendly practices to limit interference with the antelope, bears, wolves, and countless other species that also call Montana, home.

    As stewards of the land and of our rural communities, Yellowstone Grassfed Beef is dedicated to practicing innovative and ecologically sustainable ranching methods that allow us to preserve Montana’s open lands and its rich ranching tradition.
